Dear KECSS student,
Welcome to the Kingsborough Early College Secondary School! By the time you graduate, you will not only have received a first-rate education, but an opportunity to achieve an Associate of Arts degree, too- one major step on the road to other degrees, to a fulfilling career, and to a brilliant future.
Every day at the Kingsborough Early College Secondary School (KECSS) we will work hard to made learning exciting, to nurture your emotional and intellectual development, and to make sure that you mature into strong, successful, self-confident adults. We promise to help you develop the kind of rigorous writing, reading, and critical thinking skills essential to the modern information-based global economy. We will also enable you- through our structured curriculum and global entrepreneurship program- to develop a sense of responsibility and connectedness to the larger society. Curiosity, respect, and commitment to others are key elements of the KECSS culture. We promise to provide as many resources as we can to help you succeed.
Those are pledges to you; however, you must make some of your own. No school can be successful without the hard work and energy of its students and their families. Therefore you must commit to the work that will allow you to excel. And by “work” we don’t just mean homework (though you’ll get plenty of that, too). We mean consistent excellent attendance, both during the school year and in our summer bridge programs; and we mean taking advantage of many of the tutorial and after-school activities that we will offer. We also mean making your family full partners in your journey ahead. We will ask them to attend periodic school-family meetings and other family activities, to keep close track of your progress in school, to provide an environment at in which you can read, study, and think.
It is often said, “It takes a village to support a child.” We see the Kingsborough Early College Secondary School as an extraordinary opportunity to build a village of support for the children and families who join us and as a result, I look forward to that fine day when you march down the aisle, with a cap gown, high school diploma, and a college degree.
Sincerely,
Connie Hamilton, Principal
